Dr. Shantanu Kumar Biswas is Professor in Human Resource Management. Prior to this assignment, he was Director (Personnel) of THDC India Limited, a Schedule Mini Ratna Company of Govt. of India under Ministry of Power. Dr. Biswas is an HR Professional with 35 years of rich experience in Human Resource Management. He has graduated in Management from XISS, which is one of the premier Business Schools in India and has obtained Bachelor’s Degree in Law from Himachal Pradesh University. He has also done Diploma in Training and Development from ISTD, New Delhi. The Diploma is a recognized qualification for engagement as a Trainer and is approved by Govt. of India. He has completed his PhD on “Impact of Strategic HRM on Employee Performance: A Study of selected Power Sector PSUs” from Uttarakhand Technical University, Dehradun.
Dr. Biswas has vast experience of working in two Core Sectors of Indian Industry viz. Cement and Power. He started his career with Cement Corporation of India Limited, then joined Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited, premier Schedule A Govt. of India Undertaking under Ministry of Power before joining THDC India Limited as General Manager (Personnel). His successful stint in THDC India Limited rose him to Board Level position and assumed the office of Director (Personnel) of THDCIL in 2012. Dr. Biswas is recognized as change agent and redefined HR in THDCIL. He is known to depict higher degree to tolerance and forbearance in handling difficult situation. He has been acted as catalyst in shaping HR policies, maintained cordial human relations, carried out various welfare activities and had been a source of motivation for young officers in the Corporation. He believes in the philosophy that HR has to play a strategic role, understanding the business dynamics of enterprise and contributing to overall performance of the Corporation. He follows an open door policy, maintains constant dialogue with internal and external stakeholders and inspired his employees to perform and be an achiever. Dr. Biswas is a voracious reader, writer and thinker. He believes that training is an investment for any Corporation and yields results in long run. He had been instrumental in career upgradation of employees in THDCIL empowering them to meet future challenges of the Corporation. He is a source of inspiration for young HR professionals. Under his able guidance and leadership THDCIL bagged concurrently two HR Awards for Best HR Strategy by Green Tech and World HRD Congress in the year 2013 and 2014 together with SCOPE meritorious certificate for best HR policy, Gold Award by Ek Kaam Desh Ke Naam, an well renowned NGO for Innovation in Recruitment Strategy (2017).
